Sprint Nextel insists it will continue to offer unlimited data plans on its smartphones and has disclosed plans to upgrade its coming Long-Term Evolution network to LTE-Advanced in early 2013, about one year after it hopes to deploy LTE. "It's in the labs now," said Sprint's engineering vice president, Iyad Tarazi, who cited the 4x4 antenna array on the phones and the network as well as improved interference techniques as the technology behind the upgrade. Tarazi said Sprint probably would launch LTE-Advanced on tablets and possibly larger smartphones, but that is still being decided.
