Referring physicians who have a financial interest in medical imaging showed 49% higher utilization rate compared with those who did not have financial interest, according to a study published in the American Journal of Roentgenology. Physicians with a financial interest in an imaging modality also employed other modalities more, the study showed. The researchers also found that the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 did not reduce imaging use by nonradiologists.
