The rate of retinopathy cases in young patients with type 1 diabetes on intensive glycemic control therapy decreased from 53% between 1990 and 1994 to 12% between 2005 and 2009, a study in Diabetes Care showed. The researchers said the lower retinopathy prevalence was tied to more patients receiving multiple daily injections or continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion.
