Each increase of one standard deviation in log-transformed N-terminal fragment of pro-B-type natriuretic peptide, a hormone that maintains cardiovascular function, reduced type 2 diabetes risk by 21%, according to an analysis of a case-cohort study in PLoS Medicine. However, more studies are needed to back the findings, researchers said.
