Verizon Wireless will likely turn to small pico and micro cells as one way to keep its network humming through the expected explosion in data traffic.
"Small cells is one of the ways we're going to keep up growth. The other is more spectrum," said Bill Stone, executive vice president of network planning. Verizon also says it has deployed Alcatel-Lucent's Mobile Device Management software to manage the growing number of devices on its Long-Term Evolution network.
