Veterinarians have necropsied the first non-frozen ringed seal that was afflicted with the mystery illness killing dozens of ringed seals in Alaska. They found the animal had enlarged lymph nodes, signs of hepatitis and evidence that the seal was molting much later than usual. Many viral and bacterial diseases have been ruled out, and investigators are collaborating with local residents to learn more about past sightings of similar symptoms.
