Undergoing a low-calorie diet for four months helped obese patients with type 2 diabetes to attain significant reductions in body weight and pericardial fat, experts reported at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. Researchers noted only a slight increase in pericardial fats after a 14-month follow-up on a regular diet, suggesting that calorie restriction has long-term cardiovascular health benefits.
