Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell and other companies are studying using propane in hydraulic fracturing, said GasFrac Energy Services President and CEO Zeke Zeringue. Propane fracking is a booming market and "could be a game changer for the industry," Zeringue said, adding that GasFrac has performed more than 1,000 propane fracks on 400 wells. The technology involves the use of propane gel instead of water to extract oil and natural gas in shale formations, eliminating water-usage concerns.
