The Eolos Wind Energy Research Consortium of the University of Minnesota is attracting interest from companies such as 3M and WindLogics, which are seeking ways to test their products and services, said Fotis Sotiropoulos, head of the consortium. 3M partnered with the consortium to test an experimental film coating that the company says boosts the efficiency of wind turbines and potentially muffles the sounds they emit. "There are all these turbines around, but it is not easy to go to a wind farm and tell that owner, 'I want to turn off your turbine. I want to try something,'" said Sotiropoulos.
