Japanese researchers successfully directed stem cells to develop into endocrine-secreting cells, mainly ACTH-secreting cells, and when they implanted those cells into mice without pituitary glands, hormone secretion restarted. Ultimately, the research may lead to new ways of treating pituitary disorders, such as dwarfism and head trauma in which the pituitary gland has been damaged.
