Consumers are grabbing for smartphones in ever-larger numbers as their prices have declined over four straight quarters, according to The NPD Group, which says smartphone selling prices averaged $135 in the third quarter even though many buyers started out intending to spend more than $200 on a handset. With 59% of cellphone sales consisting of smartphones, the market was led by Apple's iPhone 4 and 3GS models, along with the HTC Evo 4G.
