Americans had $10.7 trillion in assets stowed away for retirement at the end of last year, which was a significant recovery after assets fell to $8.1 trillion in 2008, according to a Hearts & Wallets study based on Federal Reserve and U.S. census data. U.S. retirement assets last year topped the 2007 peak of $10.5 trillion. The study found that fewer households exceeded the $100,000 mark for investable assets last year than before the financial crisis.
