A study in the journal Pediatrics found that simultaneously having methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection and H1N1 influenza increased eightfold the risk of dying among children without pre-existing conditions, despite receiving vancomycin. The findings were based on the outcomes of 838 children aged 21 years old and younger with H1N1 from 35 pediatric intensive care units.
