A study of heart attack survivors found that only half of those given free prescription medications to prevent a second cardiac event took them, Brigham and Women's Hospital researchers reported in the New England Journal of Medicine. Even though researchers had trouble getting people to even sign up, study sponsor Aetna said it is going to offer some heart medications for free to members because doing so will save money in the end.
