An estimated 15% of vitamin D-deficient women either died or experienced heart failure, heart attack or stroke during a 16-year study period, compared with 10.2% of women who were not deficient, researchers reported at an American Heart Association meeting. The findings, based on data on more than 2,000 postmenopausal white women ages 45 to 58, also showed that women with low vitamin D levels had higher triglyceride and fasting glucose levels and a higher body mass index.
