Skyscrapers can be made more sustainable by using simple and innovative methods such as natural daylight, rainwater capture and reuse, improved insulation, energy-use monitoring and using recycled or low-impact building and construction materials, writes Kate Ascher, author of The Heights: Anatomy of a Skyscraper. "Quality, not quantity, is likely to be the hallmark of the next generation of skyscrapers as they reach for the sky," she notes.
