The U.K. chemical industry can lead a new industrial revolution if not for the uncertain regulatory atmosphere brought by European climate change initiatives and other measures that will boost energy costs, writes Steve Elliott, CEO of the Chemical Industries Association in the U.K. The optimistic view is that U.K. chemical firms are gaining ground against Chinese and Indian competitors, but the industry must continue to lead in new innovations. It is crucial for the U.K. government to make the right policy choices, "and I urge them to do so for the sake of the economy and for jobs," Elliott writes.
