Michigan utility Consumers Energy plans to build Lake Winds Energy Park in Mason County to help it comply with the state's 10% renewable-energy requirement, moving ahead of another utility, DTE Energy, which will achieve 6% by the end of next year. "When Lake Winds begins producing electrons late next year in 2012, we will move from 5% to 8%, heading us towards the 10% requirement of Michigan's law," said Consumers Energy spokesman Dan Bishop.
