Cornell University and partner Technion-Israel Institute of Technology bested six other applicants to win a land grant on Roosevelt Island, N.Y., plus $100 million for infrastructure improvements, to build a new engineering campus. The project will create 20,000 construction jobs, 8,000 permanent jobs and approximately 30,000 more jobs for 600 spinoff companies. "In a word, this project will be transformative," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
