Websites need nine core elements to ensure search engines index it properly and there are a host of important tricks that developers should have up their sleeves to make sure everything works properly, writes Duane Forrester. A surprising number of sites lack even a basic robots.txt file to guide the behavior of search engines' Web-crawlers, he notes. Verification code and social sharing tools are also must-have features.
