Shale natural gas drillers and landowners who are seeking the approval of hydraulic fracturing in New York are frustrated by fresh delays implemented by the state's Department of Environmental Conservation to gather more input about the regulation. The deadline for public comments was extended to Jan. 11. "While today's extension of the comment period may seem inconsequential to some, it is in fact a continuation of the existing four-year ban on economic opportunity for upstate New York," said Independent Oil and Gas Association of New York Executive Director Brad Gill.
