While some sources on the Internet may disparage the use of fructosamine for monitoring diabetes in pets, veterinarian Jim Randolph explains that fructosamine is actually a useful tool because it gauges the effectiveness of insulin levels over two- to three-week intervals. Fructosamine, the combination of glucose and albumin, is high when glucose levels are high, indicating poor diabetes regulation, information veterinarians use to help adjust insulin administration.
