Governments should not waste time in adopting policies that promote renewable energy, as they risk locking the world in "an insecure, inefficient and high-carbon energy system," according to Maria van der Hoeven, executive director of the International Energy Agency. "Renewables already play a central role in fostering sustainability and energy security, and their significance will only grow in the coming decades," van der Hoeven said.
