Data from Sweden and Denmark on 1,658 patients diagnosed with myotonic muscular dystrophy between 1977 and 2009 showed an observed cancer rate of 73.4 per 10,000 person-years compared with an expected rate of 36.9 in the general population. In the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers reported that cancer in the endometrium yielded the highest standardized incidence ratio, followed cancers in the brain and ovary.
