Over the past decade, students in Ontario have improved reading scores on standardised tests, but fewer enjoy reading, according to People for Education, an education advocacy group. Canadian students rank fifth in a worldwide ranking of reading achievement. "There's a concern that schools have turned reading into work," said Annie Kidder, executive director of People for Education. "It may seem like a little thing, but it actually permeates everything else in school life."
