A clinical prediction tool known as the "Rule of 7s" showed high sensitivity in detecting children with cerebrospinal fluid pleocytosis who were at low risk for Lyme meningitis, according to a study in the journal Pediatrics. The findings were based on 423 children with CSF pleocytosis living in Lyme disease-endemic areas. The rule factors in headaches in the past seven days, whether CSF mononuclear cell levels are less than 70% and the absence of seventh or other cranial nerve palsy.
