A survey of 1,651 health care providers found that 25% of the nurses and 32% of the doctors questioned the appropriateness of the care received in the intensive care unit by at least one of their patients. "The main reason for perceived inappropriateness of care is a mismatch between the level of care and the expected patient outcome, usually in the direction of perceived excess intensity of care," researchers said. The findings appear in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
