The market for education technology is being fueled by teacher-developed programs, says journalist Audrey Watters. That shift can be credited to a general boom in third-party applications, as well as an effort to encourage educators to make apps. Watters writes that many teachers are taking what they have learned in professional-learning networks -- "identify a problem; build a solution" -- and using it to develop education technology.
