U.S. hospitals have been slow to use iPads and similar tablet devices to allow doctors to access electronic medical records, partly because of the high cost of implementing the technology, says Jonathan Mack of the West Wireless Health Institute. Doctors at the UC San Diego Health System report improved efficiency and patient communication after using iPads, but they remain concerned about usability, privacy and other issues tied to the technology.
