LGBT advocates looking for an ally in Congress to replace Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., who recently announced he would not run for re-election, say they will have multiple options. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., is campaigning to become the first openly LGBT U.S. senator, two openly gay House members are running for re-election and a number of out nonincumbent candidates are seeking congressional seats after being endorsed by the Victory Fund. Although LGBT Americans will remain underrepresented on Capitol Hill under the best of circumstances next year, the political pipeline is beginning to fill up, advocates say.
