Advances in enterprise resource planning software have not kept up with manufacturers' increasing need to install and maintain equipment with versatile functionality, writes Cindy Jaudon of IFS North America. About two thirds of manufacturing company executives desire more industry-specific functionality from their ERP programs, according to a recent survey. A common complaint about current ERP software is that it doesn't enable manufacturers to predict the costs of maintaining or replacing old equipment, Jaudon writes.
