The $27.5 million, 102,000-square-foot La Bahn Arena of the University of Wisconsin-Madison is using BubbleDeck concrete slabs, an unconventional technique that uses rigid plastic spheres to reduce concrete volume by 30%, making it a "green product," says Jerry Clarke-Ames, BubbleDeck North America president. Precast panels were used to deliver the plastic balls and prefabricated cages to reduce labor time, Clarke-Ames said. "Using the precast panels takes away the need for any formwork and allows us to work with mechanical-electrical-plumbing contractors to install sleeves and conduit," he said.
