In Quebec, Canada, officials banned fast-food advertisements on television for eight years, until 1992, and researchers say the decision led to less consumption of fast food. Spending on fast food was down in the province, and researchers say children also consumed 2.2 billion to 4.4 billion fewer calories each year. However, researchers say the ban might not be as effective now because of the influx of online advertising.
