The microblogging tool Twitter could be effective in encouraging students who might otherwise stay silent to participate in classroom lessons, a new study shows. As part of the study, students were permitted to "tweet" anonymous responses, which were read by the teacher on a classroom computer. "Hopefully it would lead to fewer passengers in the classroom and allow those students who are less likely to engage with teachers, for social or cultural reasons, to participate," said researcher Jeremy Novak of Southern Cross University in Australia.
