LEED ratings favor the use of concrete and steel over domestically produced wood, according to some, and that could be one reason that the 2012 Defense Authorization Act bans the Department of Defense from pursuing LEED certification unless cost savings can be proven. As green building becomes more popular, some industry groups will advocate for better treatment of their building material under the rating systems, say some experts.
