Exercise and a low-calorie diet each offer their own health benefits, with exercise doing a better job of reducing fat around organs, according to Edward Weiss, an assistant professor of nutrition and dietetics at St. Louis University. His ongoing research indicates that in some cases, exercise had twice the effect as calorie restriction, but he emphasizes that a low-calorie diet plus exercise is needed to get the best health.
