Patients with moderate or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who were given high-dose vitamin D supplements had an average 2.8 exacerbations of symptoms compared with 2.9 for a placebo group in a study reported in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine. Researchers found no differences between the vitamin D group and the placebo group in terms of first exacerbation episode, lung function, mortality risk or fatigue.
