Nintendo, in partnership with telecom company NTT, is aiming to use speech-recognition software with its DS consoles to improve the education of students with hearing impairments in Japanese schools. The program, which is being piloted in two prefectures, has teachers recording lessons, which are converted to text accessible to students' DS consoles via a cloud-based server.
