Children who used a pump dispenser applied the most sunscreen with an average of 0.75 milligrams per square centimeter of skin, followed by squeeze-bottle users and roll-on applicator users, an Australian study found. In the journal Archives of Dermatology, researchers reported an average sunscreen use of 0.48 milligrams per square centimeter of skin among children.
