Regulators should closely monitor FirstEnergy's Davis-Besse nuclear plant in Ohio, but the facility shouldn't be shut down because it provides needed electricity and supports 800 jobs, said Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio. Kaptur spoke in a meeting concerning safety at the plant after a 2011 discovery of hairline cracks in the reactor's shield building. "I came to assure the people that I am a proponent of public safety, I am convinced the NRC did its job this time, and I also want to see advanced energy production that's affordable and see the plant increase employment," she said.
