Several states have abolished teacher tenure, and others have weakened tenure protections amid a push to adopt more rigorous teacher evaluations that take into account students' achievement on standardized tests. A report released Wednesday by the National Council on Teacher Quality found that four states require evidence that students are learning before granting tenure to teachers -- an increase from 2009, when no state had such requirements.
