The U.S. Health Resources Services Administration, which regulates organ donation and transplantation, has proposed setting standards for face, hand and other body-part transplants. The proposed rule, which is open for public comment until Feb. 14, would require tissue matching and testing. "It's a huge step forward in the right direction," said ASPS member and face transplant pioneer Dr. Bohdan Pomahac. "It will make it easier for programs to get started."
