Intermittent renewable energy networks present an extra challenge for utilities working to secure their infrastructure from cyber-attack, since their source typically resides outside their control system, but strategies such as load shedding can go a long way toward mitigating the risk, according to experts attending the Gridwise Global Forum. "Smart grid means more potential penetration points," said Telvent Energy's Jeff Meyers. "The more complexity we introduce, in some senses, we're making ourselves more vulnerable."
