Beverages that contain high-fructose corn syrup lead to a higher blood level of fructose than those that contain sucrose or regular sugar, U.S. researchers reported in the journal Metabolism. The study also found that drinks sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup cause a higher uric acid level and a greater increase in systolic blood pressure.
