Education officials in Houston are considering how to address recent data showing that nearly one in six children in district schools are being identified as "gifted in talented," a proportion that is more than double the state and national averages. Some say the district should adopt stricter standards for categorizing students as gifted and in need of special services. Others, including some parents, are concerned that such changes would lead to decreased funding for gifted education.
