Education officials in Palo Alto, Calif., chose to purchase the K-12 learning system Schoology, rather than use free alternatives, because of the program's interface that does not require a district to sign on before students and teachers begin participating. "Many of our teachers at the high schools had already moved away from the District provided platforms ... we needed a manageable platform that could be expanded to all grade levels and provided education specific components such as an assignment dropbox," said Ann Dunkin, director of technology for the district.
