Norwalk, Conn., will see the development of a 700,000-square-foot shopping center called The SoNo Collection, and this one will be an enclosed building. Developer General Growth Properties says Norwalk is one of the most desirable markets in the United States and "1 out of 5 households in the trade area are among the top 1 percent of Americans in terms of wealth."
Campbell CEO Denise Morrison and Richard Moccia, mayor of Norwalk, Conn., were among the officials present at the official opening of a 34,000-square-foot Pepperidge Farm innovation center at Pepperidge Farm headquarters in Norwalk. "Our investment in the new Pepperidge Farm innovation center will help accelerate the rate of new product development across our baking and snacking portfolio," Morrison said.
Rheb's Candies, founded in 1917, operates out of a Baltimore rowhouse, using recipes that are as old as the company. "It’s a fun business," says Rheb’s President Wynn Harger. "Chocolate is one of those things that always makes you feel good."
Japan is a difficult market for outside brands, but Kit Kat has managed to break through as a favorite. Reasons include the name, which sounds like the good luck term “Kitto Katsu," and Nestle's introduction of some 200 specialty flavors, which play into Japanese love of novelty.
Campbell Soup plans to spend $30 million to build a research-and-development center for Pepperidge Farm products and revamp its headquarters in Norwalk, Conn. The 34,000-square-foot R&D facility, expected to be complete in fall 2012, will have science labs, kitchens, a small production line and amenities for product testing.
