Officials in the Illinois towns of Bolingbrook and Channahon are using video gambling machines in sports bars to raise money for charity under a decades-old state law that permits charity raffles. The machines, made by Nebraska-based Video King and distributed by Illinois-based Bar Stool Gaming, have generated thousands of dollars over the past couple of years. Bar Stool Gaming CEO John Martin soon hopes to bring the machines to the larger market in neighboring Joliet, estimating that 30 machines could generate as much as $360,000 a year for charities there.
