Civil engineering has been named one of the Best Jobs of 2012 by U.S. News & World Report, which bases its list on projected employment growth and other factors. The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts that employment for civil engineers will increase 19.4% between 2010 and 2020. A civil engineer can "actually see [things] being built. ... It's very rewarding to see the results of what you saw on paper. It gives you a lot of personal satisfaction," said Andrew Herrmann, president of the ASCE.
