The green building industry in the U.S. is more likely to expand through building energy-management systems rather than net-zero buildings because the technology is easier to adopt, writes Korky Koroluk. The global market for building energy-management systems rose to $1.9 billion in 2011, and could reach $6 billion by 2020, according to Pike Research. Building energy-management systems cost less than net-zero technology and can be employed by existing buildings, Koroluk notes.
